Hello and welcome, thank you for joining me. I would like to share with you a Shaker Card I have created for the Global Design Challenge #GDP245. This week they have given us a colour combination to get our creative juices flowing.
The colours given are three of the five new 2020 – 2022 Incolors. The other two are ‘Misty Moonlight’ and ‘Cinnamon Cider’. For inspiration and creations using all five of these colours please see my last blog post. These colours are so bright and fun and just fit for summer.
When I first saw these colours I knew I wanted to create a watercolour wash background, but had no idea what else I would do. I decided to use a stamp set that I had not used in a while, so pulled out the ‘Beauty Abounds’ stamp set. This is a lovely, pretty set with foliage, butterflies, background accents and beautiful sentiments. The coordinating dies, ‘Butterfly Beauty’ dies, are an amazing set of dies which give you two large butterfly clusters, as well as many smaller butterflies and two foliage stems.
My immediate thought was to die cut the cluster butterflies and overlay onto a watercolour wash background, then I thought again and seeing all the smaller butterflies decided to create a shaker card. The small die cuts just lend themselves so well to being inside a shaker card. I wanted to use black cardstock so that the background colours really popped.
Shaker Card
Dampen a piece of ‘Shimmery White’ cardstock, measuring 9.5 cm x 14.9 cm. Using a ‘Water Painter’ create a background with your three ink colours, blending them into each other. You can add more colour as you go, until you are happy with the effect. Set this aside to dry, or use your ‘Heat Tool’.
Cut a piece of ‘Basic Black’ cardstock, measuring 10 cm x 14.4 cm, and cut an aperture, leaving a equal border left, right and top, using the ‘Stitched Rectangle’ dies. Adhere a piece of ‘Window Sheet’ flat to the reverse side, measuring 10 cm x 14 cm. Using ‘Foam Adhesive Strips’, create a wall around your aperture with no gaps. This will hold your shaker pieces inside.
Stamp your foliage image onto your background, using ‘Memento Tuxedo Black’ ink. Die cut five of the smaller detailed butterflies from ‘Basic Black’ cardstock and adhere flat onto your background. For your shaker bits, you will need 20-30 tiny die cut butterflies, these also are cut from ‘Basic Black’ cardstock. Place these and a some sequins, from the ‘Woven Threads Sequin Assortment’, into the centre of your background. Remove the backing from your ‘Foam Adhesive Strips’ and place down on top of your background.
Mount your shaker onto an A6 ‘Basic Black’ card base, measuring 10.5 cm x 14.9 cm. Add a strip of ‘Magenta Madness’ Incolor ribbon and a white heat embossed sentiment, cut this to size. To finish, colour the sides of the white ‘Foam Adhesive Strips’ using a ‘Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker’.
I hope you have enjoyed my card and found some inspiration. Please do leave a comment below.
